Pallets are great to work with because you can get them free, which will save you a lot of money; plus, it’s also environment-friendly. For this project, we’ll be using materials that can easily be purchased from any local hardware store.
1. Start with the walls.
Since the pallets are already attached together, you will need to modify. You can either use a crow bar or cut of the portion with nails attached. (The latter is recommended if you’re making a small dog house since this requires shorter pieces of wood).
2. Attach the walls.
Once you’ve removed the part with the nails, you can now place the walls together. Be sure to measure accurately and mark the portion where you will make the cut. At this point, your dog house should look like a box with two sides and a square base.
3. Cut the top portion
Using a jig saw, cut the top portion in a slanting angle to give the roof a slanted look.
4. Make a door.
Using a pencil and ruler, measure how big the door would be. Trace this out before you cut with your saw.
5. Sanding
Once you’re happy with the size of the door, you can start sanding all the edges. Be sure to cover all surfaces of the dog house so as to avoid having any splinters inside or outside of the dog house. You wouldn’t want your pet dog to accidentally get caught on one of these splinters so be sure to go through each nook and cranny.
6. Make the floor and roof
After sanding, measure out the base of the dog house. You can make use of pallets or any waterproof material since this would be in contact with the ground more that the other parts of the house.
