If you happen to be into the earthy-themed design, then you might fawn over rustic furniture. This nature-inspired style is starting to get many people’s attention.
This new form of aesthetic gave rise to rustic furniture that people love. Designers surprise us with their skills to express this theme in normal furnishes. What makes it better is that you don’t have to buy one to get one, you can build one.
Follow the instructions below to know how to build a simple rustic sideboard. Using materials found at home, pallets and kitchen cabinets, get ready for woodwork.
1. First things first, prepare the materials needed. For a beginner in woodworking, making this wood piece is one of the easiest projects.
Using machinery would make the process quicker (table saw and miter saw), but hand tools will also do. Hand saw, a crowbar, measuring tape, and a drill are the tools you will need to complete this wood piece.
2. Start sawing the feet off the kitchen furniture with a hand saw. One thing that distinguishes sideboard among other furniture is it has little or no toe kick.
Use a measuring tape to have an equal measurement on each cabinet while sawing.
3. Conjoin the cabinets together in a horizontal position. Make a hole between the cupboards with a driller and tighten them with a screw. Do this in all four corners of the side that meets with the adjacent one. Doing so would fasten this furniture together.
4. Dismantle the pallet. Use a crowbar or a claw hammer, if you don’t have the first one. Start pulling out the nails on each side of the slat. Be careful not to break off the joined pieces.
5. Use the pallet to cover the top and bottom frame of the joined cabinets. If the plywood is too long, make proper adjustments. Make sure that the width of the furring would not interfere with the drawers. Nail the lumber to secure them. Nail the furring in a vertical position between the cabinets to cover up the spaces formed.
Do not overlap with the lumber placed before it. Saw the plywood to fit into the space.
6. Flip the furniture upside down. Attach foot plates on each corner of the furniture. Screw the pegs, making sure they are steady. Then flip the cabinet upright.
7. Sand and paint over the new furniture. If you wish to maintain its appearance, varnish it instead.
Apply wax to prevent the wood from warping and cracking. Polish the knobs of the drawers and secure them.
8. Sweep off the dirt, and you’re done. If you want, you can customize the drawer frame and replace the knobs with your personal design.
Sideboards are kitchen appliances that serve at storage for other utensils and appliances. It is also known as a buffet since it is also used to place plates or dishes if the dining table is full. It’s a useful piece of furniture that you would want your neighbors to see on the next house dinner party.
