Need something to comfortably sit on as you unwind in your backyard? Maybe a chaise lounge chair is all you need. Recently rising in popularity, this chair allows you to lounge around, which is why it’s becoming more common than benches. A common material used in this chair is a wood pallet. As wood pallets are used in a variety of home décor projects, they can be easily acquired. However, making the chaise lounge chair’s frame might look too complicated to some. Check out these easy steps to build your very own chaise lounge chair frame.
Step 1: Collect All Materials and Tools
To cut the wood, you will need a compound miter and table saws. If screws will be used, you will need a drill, driving bit, and a countersink bit. If you prefer to use nails, a hammer will be enough. Other tools needed will be a staple gun, tape measure, pencil, and a speed square.
For the frame, four rectangular pallets of the same size will be needed. To make the lounger, pallet slabs will be attached. If recycled wood will be used, make sure to clean them first.
To assemble the frame and base together, use wood glue, staples, and various lengths of screws or nails.
For the optional upholstery, chair covers, fabric in matching colors, and a foam pad will be used. Paint or varnish can also be used to beautify the finished product.
Step 2: Measure, Mark, and Cut
Measure and cut the pallets relative to the dimensions of the people who will use the lounge chair.
Step 3: Assemble the Frame
To form the base, stack the four wood pallets on top of each other. For the backrest, use the leftover pallets. Using either screws or nails, assemble the pieces together in the shape of a lounger. Usually, the backrest is inclined at a 15-degree angle. To make it sturdier, attach two side pallets at the back.
Now that the frame is formed, attach the pallet slabs to create the seat panel. Remember to place them very close together.
If you prefer a colorful lounge chair, consider painting or varnishing them. If you like it natural, then opt for a seal that does not alter color.
Step 4: Upholster for Maximum Comfort (Optional)
Attach the foam to the chair by stapling it at the front side of the backrest and around the frame. Make sure that all corners of the base are padded.
Next, wrap the fabric around the seat panel and staple it at the chair’s underside. This will give the chair a more polished look as the bare plywood will not be seen. For the final touch, place a bunch of throw pillows. You can also place a small table on the side.
The Final Product
While lounge chairs are widely available in the market, many people prefer to make them out of wood pallets as they are cheaper and sturdier. They can also serve as a good afternoon project for your family. Spice up your garden and start making your very own chaise lounge chair.
