Steps in Building a Guitar Stool

Below are the general steps in building a guitar stool. Refer to your woodworking plan for alterations and customizations.

1. Glue two pairs of 3/4 thick boards. This is a suggested measurement, so it is best to rely on your woodworking plan for specifics. Clamp for uniform finish.

2. The seat is 1 1/2 inches thick. Glue wider boards together. Joint one edge. Use jig on table saw. Set up the rip fence to the width of board; rip into 1 1/2-inch strips.

3. Legs must tilt into two different directions. Make compound miter cut on all the ends. Tilt blade into 7° and tilt miter gauge to 7°. It will help legs lean in two different directions.

4. Length of all legs must be exact. Clamp all wood and cut all at the same time.

5. In drilling holes, each leg gets a hole that is 10 inches from the bottom on one side, and 9 inches from the bottom of the adjacent side.

6. Re-position stop block to the other side to cut the upper holes. Clamp boards so they do not slide when trying to drill the holes.

7. Cut two pieces of plywood to the same 7° angle and screw.

8. The bottom span of the legs should be 13”. Set angled piece to the 13-inch mark.

9. Cut dowels to the size by test-fitting them. Drill one pocket hole at the top of each leg to attach them to the seat.

10. Assemble the pieces. Bring assembled unit to a perfectly flat space. The structure should be free from wobbles.

11. Glue three boards together for seat with the same diameter as the width of the legs. Cut circle and refine the sides.

12. Refine parts by putting Danish oil. Let it dry overnight.

13. Finally, assemble the circle by screwing it with the assembled leg structure to arrive at the finished product. Test for rigidity in a perfectly flat surface.
