* 100 pcs, 1-1/4” coarse thread pocket hole screws
* 20 pcs, 1-1/4” 18-gauge brad nails
* 8 pcs, 5 mm shelf pins
Step 1.
Cut four 3/4″ x 1-1/2″ x 54″ front and back rails and four 3/4″ x 1 1/2″ x 12-1/2″ end rails. Drill holes at the edge of the rails where you are to attach the legs. Use a pocket hole jig and set at ¾”.
Step 2.
Cut four 1-1/2″ x 1-1/2″ x 22″ legs from a 2 x 2 board and use the pocket hole screws to attach the rails onto the legs.
Step 3.
Cut three 3/4″ x 5-1/2″ x 58″ top slats from 1 x 6 boards. Drill holes in the slats with the pocket hole jig set at ¾”.
Step 4.
Attach the top boards with the pocket hole screws. You make a panel out of these top boards.
Step 5.
Cut two 3/4″ x 7 1/4″ x 56″ base slots out of the 1×8 boards. Set your pocket hole jig at ¾” and then drill pocket holes in the base slots. With a jig saw, notch 2 corners of each base slats.
Step 6.
Create a panel by joining the base boards with the coarse-thread pocket hole screws.
Step 7.
To make the wide shelves, cut two 3/4″ x 7 1/4″ x 20″ wide shelf slats from the 1 x 8 board. When done, cut two 3/4″ x 5 1/2″ x 20″ narrow shelf slats from the 1 x 6 boards. Use a wide slat and a narrow slat when making each shelf and then drill pocket holes.
Step 8.
Assemble the shelf slats with the pocket hole screws to form a shelf panel.
Step 9.
Drive screws through the top and base panels to attach these to the stand. Check that the top panel overhangs the stand on all sides equally. And, check that the gaps at the base are consistent.
Step 10.
Cut two 3/4″ plywood x 5-1/2″ x 20″ from ¾” plywood and drill shelf pin holes at 1” apart in one face of each divider.
Step 11.
Cut two 3/4″ x 1 1/2″ x 16 1/4″ divider trim pieces out of the ¼ board. Attach the dividers by driving pocket hole screws. Nail the divider trim pieces such that they overhang the divider equally on each side.
Step 12.
Create a 1/4″ ply x 22 1/2″ x 16 1/4″ back panel by cutting it out of the ¼” plywood. Next, drill 3 holes for wires to pass through.
Step 13.
Nail the back panel to the dividers’ back edges using a 1-1/4” brad nails. Do the final sanding if necessary. Paint or finish your TV stand to your preference and you’re done.
