Assembly:
1. Building the frame

Take the two pieces of (a) panels and place them parallel to one another. Take the two (b) panels of wood, then line them up to form a box. Take the framing square, make sure that the corners are aligned. Measure 2” and 6” on the ends of the two longer boards and mark with a pencil. After this, take your drill and make holes on the marks. Once done, connect all four sides using screws.

After the outer portion of the frame is done, take the last (b) panel and place it directly in the center of the frame. Then take the (c) panel and place it perpendicular to the center board. Measure, mark, drill then secure these with wooden screws.

2. Add depth: decorate
Once the frame is complete, you can take the decorative panels and lay them out on top of the (d) panel. This portion is free hand so you can create whatever design you please. Glue to secure and allow to dry. You can also opt to paint these panels to give it a bit of color.

Once you’re done decorating the cover panel, you can proceed to painting the door and frame with a paint color of your choice. Set this aside to dry.

3. Attaching the hardware

Another part of learning how to build a simple wall mounted desk and folding standing up desk out of wood is attaching the right hardware. First, flip the door with the decorated part facing down. Connect the bottom portion of the door to the inside part of the frame with the cabinet hinges. Use wooden screws to secure the hinges in place.

Next, connect the doors with the drop down hinges. Line up the hinge with the bottom right side of the panel and frame. Measure, mark and then drill to attach screws. Once done, you can now attach the latch closure on the top right corner on the inside of the door. Do this for both sides.

Note: As a stand up desk, you can simply skip mounting the desk on the wall and just affix it on top of a flat surface or add table legs to the bottom.
